FAQs
What is your performance style like?
Sometimes we correlate performance style to music genres. But if we had to label it, I am what’s called an open-format DJ, well-versed in many musical genres.
My performance style is strategic. I first acknowledge what moves and motivates the masses. This creates, what I call the party environment baseline.
I also pay attention to those who are disengaged or partying too far from me. During my 3 summers as the resident DJ at Como's in downtown Ferndale, I would watch what draws people in from Woodward, get their attention, make that eye contact with them, smile, and get them to my dance floor.
This last approach in my strategy is more like a self-challenge/goal for me. How far can I grow my baseline? How can I get the older generation to party with the newer generation? I started to realize that I was consistently getting grandma’s to stay and dance at ratchet hour…So I keep this way of measuring how the night is going as a goal.
I've been trying to perfect this formula throughout the years but execution comes with this basic principle of doing things better every time, every wedding, every corporate party, every event.
How long have you been DJing weddings?
Been blessed to party and work with the most awesome couples since 2015.
What are your favorite wedding songs to perform?
Every wedding is different. I don't treat any wedding like a cookie-cutter Spotify list performance. I do like to creatively incorporate wordplay and storytelling when it comes to song selections though.
Can we give you a list of must-hear songs? What about a do-not-play list?
Absolutely! I work together with my couples and clients and consider myself an extension of their team.
Will you take song requests from our guests during the event?
We'll first discuss if you'd like me to take requests or not.
If YES: I practice party vibe caution, and professionalism to work the song in.
If NO: There is a portion of my paperwork that I can show your guests that express whether or not requests are allowed to gently let them know.
What's included in your pricing package? Will you also act as an emcee?
Check out my pricing and packages here.
I am a DJ/MC. I used the mic to help direct the formal announcements of the wedding or event. I also use the mic to motivate during the dancing and party portion if needed.
Using the mic is important! But I am still strategic with it so it's not overbearing AND I refuse to sound like a sports announcer.
Can we watch you perform before the wedding date?
Yes. Find me at Wine Social in Downtown Lake Orion almost every other weekend.
Does your contract include an overtime clause in case we want to extend the party?
Yes. $200 per hour. Very rare though. There are usually city ordinances and venue limits.
Have you performed at our venue before?
9/10 I've performed at your venue.
But if not... I do take the time to conduct a site visit 1-2 months from your wedding date, and definitely before our finalizing meeting. I am so OCD when it comes to setups and breakdowns, that site visits are important to me!
Do you require backup equipment? Will you provide this if necessary?
Yes. I bring on-site backup equipment ready to go.
What's your backup plan in case of inclement weather while performing outside?
Again, super OCD with setups and breakdowns. Weather is also something I prepare for and work together to plan with my couples and clients during our planning and prep meetings.
Will you coordinate a soundcheck at the wedding venue on the day of?
Always. Always. Always. The sound has to be perfected before guests arrive.
Do you require liability insurance?
Yes. My team and I are fully insured!
What's your cancellation policy?
I have a clause in the written contract. Before anyone signs anything, you will have the option to review the written contract and go over any questions you have with me.
How many breaks will you take throughout the evening? What will you use as filler music during this time?
Breaks? I was actually surprised at reading this question 😄
For bathroom breaks, I play my 'pissbreak' playlist lol But again, strategic even with my bathroom breaks.
Other breaks? I don't see it necessary.
How do you encourage a shy crowd to get up and dance?
A good rule of thumb I use with shy crowds is to meet them where they are at, and then get them going from there. A huge part of being a DJ is knowing transitions well. Whether transitions in the music or the overall party environment. To be able to transition from one part to another seamlessly, and to do that with no awkward silences is what makes a great DJ.
